Separately, US Senator Richard Blumenthal demanded the Navy account for conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, deployed more than 250 days in the same corridor, citing food shortages, broken plumbing and mental health crises among its crew. The Red Sea route links Gulf, South Asian and Southeast Asian trade economies — and is now costing Muslim lives on several sides of the same conflict.
