Yemeni free climber Al-Qa'qa' bin Antar dies after fall into volcanic crater

Bin Antar, 30, known online as the 'Spider-Man of Yemen' for scaling sheer rock faces without ropes, fell Friday while attempting the 120-metre Haradhat Damt crater in Al Dhale province. Civil defence teams recovered his body Saturday after a nearly 24-hour operation using diving units and lighting systems to navigate the steep interior terrain. He had previously cited poverty as his motivation for the climbs.
