Punjab restores pre-partition street names across Lahore's Walled City

Krishan Nagar is Krishan Nagar again. Under the Lahore Heritage Area Revival project, the Punjab government is returning pre-partition names to streets renamed during the Zia era and earlier — Rehman Gali back to Ram Gali, Guru Tegh Bahadur Street restored where it had become Aurangzeb Street. Residents never stopped using the old names; the city's folk memory outlasted sixty years of official overwriting. The project reverses what began with a 1952 municipal proposal to rename 76 roads — including one to rename Lahore itself.
